A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity
Own a Medieval Village in the Heart of Italian Wine Country

Vineyard Specification

VineyardThe small vineyard is just about half a hectare (about 1.2 acres), but is located in the heart of the Orvieto DOC zone and all the vines are registered with the Italian authorities.

The Orvieto DOC wine can be dry (without residual sugar) or abboccato (off-dry with a slight residual of 9 to 12 grams per liter of residual sugar). In both cases it is a soft and lively white wine with hints of berries. The autumn humidity in the area surrounding Orvieto favors the presence of Botrytis, the cinereous mushroom known as or the "noble mould" of the grapes, that confers typicalness to the sweet versions of the Orvieto DOC, a wine prized by Pope Gregory 16th in the nineteenth century.

The wines of the Orvieto DOC zone is made from Trebbiano, Malvasia, Verdello, Grechetto, and Drupeccio grapes.

Italian Flavor ConsortiumThe vineyard of Bagni di Orvieto were planted in 1973 and include the following varieties:

  • 400 Trebbiano vines
  • 122 Verdello vines
  • 102 Malvasia vines
  • 34 Grechetto vines
  • 34 Drupeccio vines

The yearly production started out at around 50 quintals (about 5.5 tons). Due to lack of irrigation and the generally warmer summers, in the last 15 years production has leveled at around 3 tons of exceptionally good quality grapes. It is a well known fact that good grape production is in proportion to the hardship endured by the vine, as well as by the limited yield of a single vine.

The olive groves have been neglected in the last few years and is used by the current caretakers to produce olive oil as they see fit, with the only obligation being to provide the owners with extra virgin olive oil for their family use.
