Lake, circa 50 square miles (130 square kilometers), in Umbria, central Italy, west of Perugia. It is also called Lake of Perugia.
The shallow circular lake (max. depth 19 ft/6 m) often floods its shores, which are sparsely populated. There is no natural outlet, but a subterranean channel to a tributary of the Tiber was opened in 1898. In 217 B.C., lake Trasimeno was the scene of Hannibal's victory over the Romans under Flaminius. |

Il lago è tondeggiante e poco profondo (massimo 6 metri) che a volte straripa sulle fertili campagne circostanti che sono sparsamente populate. Non ha emissario naturale, ma nel 1898 è stato scavato un canale sotterraneo che sfocia nel Tevere. Nel 217 A.C. il Lago Trasimeno è stato teatro della sconfitta dei romani guidati da Flaminio ad opera di Annibale. |
